  • Can this pain happen on the side of the ribs? I have for years had a pain come and go and cannot get an answer for it. One Dr said something about a “floating rib” whatever.. I actually get a knot, it’s the weirdest thing. Just curious …

    • Yes..I’ve had it fkr over 11 years. It’s actually the inflammation of the cartilage. Mine is more prominent in my bottom right rib. When its really bad the cartilage swells up so you can see the rib sticks out.

      • I agree with you 100℅ my bottom right rib is the one causing me major pain and discomfort. Deep breaths are painful. I suffer of Lupus and Fibromyalgia. I’ve had it all my life but it was finally diagnosed April 2008.

    • I get pains randomly in my chest. The best way to describe it is that sudden pain a woman gets while 5-6+ months pregnant and the baby shifts… but instead of being low where a baby would lie, it’s higher, like the 3rd thru 6th rib from the bottom of rib cage. Feels like my ribs are being pushed out thru my sides. Makes it hard to catch my breath for a few mins.

Mentioned it to my fibro Dr, she said it COULD be inflammation of the cartilage like described here, but is ordering an ultrasound of liver and gallbladder to rule out issues there, as well as a prescription for prilosec or something. A 15 min appt can set your mind at ease.

    • Have the same thing lillie a knot on the right side definitely on the rib. But I injured that rib years ago. The arthritis doctor said costochondritis and I wore a rib belt for 2 yrs, but the pain moved around to that knot on the side. Now I have pain radiating from the sternum to the back/spine. They said it would resolve, but it’s been 20 yrs and it has not. I also had fibromyalgia for years.

  • Sorry to ask, but do you have a very swollen stomach with this aswell, my stomach looks like I am 9 months pregnant…and feels like it’s goin to explode .. Xx

  • I have had this chest pain a few times over the years some doctors say its pluricy some say its chon cant spell it pain behind breast bone it radiates down my right side of rib cage and into under my shoulder blade and is more painfull on deep breathing and doing any jobs at all ,i cant take pain killers at all after stomach problems after having my gall bladder removed 25 years ago i am so fed up any answers would be welcome.j.
